Hello everyone!
My name is Liam. I'm Australian, and I love adventure as well as discovering new cultures. This summer, I had the opportunity to take part in a French immersion program in Provence with Virginie. This experience allowed me to improve my French while discovering the landscapes, culture, and gastronomy of Provence.
Provence in summer is a true paradise: endless lavender fields, colorful markets, authentic villages, and exceptional natural sites. Here are some of the excursions I particularly enjoyed during my French immersion stay in Provence.
Discovering the Provençal market in Aix-en-Provence

My first excursion took place at the famous Provençal market in Aix-en-Provence.
Visiting a market in Provence is a must-do activity all year round, but summer is an especially pleasant time to go. I discovered seasonal fruits and vegetables, local products, and Provençal specialties: red, yellow, and green tomatoes, fragrant melons, olives, aromatic herbs, and many other flavors typical of the region.
With Virginie, we took our time exploring the different stalls and chatting with local vendors. The market is an excellent place to practice French in real-life situations.
I really enjoyed this visit, but my favorite excursion was still to come.
Lavender in Provence: an unforgettable day in Valensole

The following day, we headed to the famous Valensole Plateau, one of the most beautiful places to admire lavender fields in Provence.
I was literally amazed by the scenery. Vast purple fields stretched as far as the eye could see beneath the Provençal sun. One of the highlights of my stay was discovering the lavender harvest.
With Virginie, I learned how to cut and dry lavender. This activity helped me better understand the importance of this iconic plant in Provençal culture.
If you want to see the most beautiful lavender fields in Provence, the best period is generally between mid-June and mid-July.
The Valensole Plateau is located about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Virginie in Provence. If this excursion is high on your wish list, it is best to discuss it with her before your arrival.
The Verdon Gorge: a must-see during a trip to Provence

After my stay with Virginie, I continued my journey through Provence and joined some friends at the Verdon Gorge.
Often called the "Grand Canyon of Europe," the Verdon Gorge offers some of the most spectacular natural scenery in France. Located about 2 hours and 20 minutes from Rousset, it is an ideal excursion for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
We went kayaking on the turquoise waters of the Verdon River, surrounded by impressive cliffs. Paddling through such breathtaking scenery was an unforgettable experience.
The Verdon Gorge is also perfect for swimming, picnicking, and hiking. We found several beautiful spots where we could relax by the water and fully enjoy this exceptional region.
My opinion of this French immersion in Provence

Spending a week in a French immersion program in Provence with Virginie was an incredibly rewarding experience.
Not only did I discover some of Provence's most iconic landscapes, including the lavender fields of Valensole, the market of Aix-en-Provence, and the Verdon Gorge, but I also improved my French through lessons and everyday conversations.
Every day was different and allowed me to experience Provence in an authentic way.
If you are looking for a French immersion stay in Provence, I highly recommend Virginie in Provence. You will discover the region's landscapes, gastronomy, traditions, and French culture while naturally improving your French in a warm and welcoming family environment.
