This summer, my family and I spent an unforgettable week in Provence. My name is Laura, I am English. With my husband James and our children, Hannah and Ethan, we decided to learn French while enjoying the holidays. Virginie welcomed us and showed us Provence. It was a great experience, with family moments and new discoveries. Here are three places that we particularly liked and which are perfect for families looking for discoveries and moments of sharing.
The Barben zoo: meeting animals and the French language in Provence
Our first visit was to the Barben zoological park, near Salon-de-Provence. It is a magnificent place with more than 600 animals. The kids saw lions, giraffes and red pandas, and they loved it! The park is perfect for a family day out, with shaded trails and picnic areas. During the visit, we learned many new words in French. For example, "herbivore", "carnivore" and "omnivore". The children understood a lot about animals. In addition, we saw the bird of prey show. It was great!
The village of automatons in Saint-Cannat: children’s park and fun immersion course
Then we went to the automata village, an amusement park for children. This park is in a large forest, and the children played a lot with the machines, mazes and inflatables. It was a day full of laughter and games! The children also learned new words while they played. For example, in the maze they learned the words "left", "right" and "exit". We also found picnic areas to rest. A word of advice: it’s better to arrive early to enjoy the attractions before it gets too crowded!
The Luberon cedar forest: family walk and treasure hunt in Provence
For our last day, we decided to take a walk in the Luberon cedar forest. It’s a perfect place for an easy stroll with magnificent views. The children were very happy to do a treasure hunt! During this adventure, they discovered plants and animals, and they learned new words in French. That was kind of the goal of the week, right?! We also had an outdoor picnic under the large cedars. It was a beautiful day, and we all really enjoyed the peace and nature.
Holidays in Provence: learning French while having fun
Our vacation in Provence was more than just a stay. We discovered new places, played together and learned a lot of words in French. Each activity allowed us to improve our vocabulary while enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Provence. If you are looking for a destination for a family vacation, with the opportunity to learn French while having fun, Provence is the perfect place. We already want to come back to discover even more of this beautiful region.
