The journey to Château La Coste with Angela

This week, I had the chance to discover Château La Coste, a must-visit destination in Provence that beautifully combines contemporary art, architecture, and vineyards.

Since I get motion sickness, I was the one driving. We drove for about 30 minutes along the winding roads of Provence, surrounded by vineyards and typical landscapes.

As soon as we arrived, we were completely charmed:

🌸 wildflowers

🍇 endless vineyards

🎨 artworks integrated into nature

👉 A place that feels both peaceful and inspiring.

Four Cubes to Contemplate our Environment installation by Tadao Ando at Château La Coste

One of the artworks that impressed me the most is located in a very dark building. It is called “Four Cubes to Contemplate our Environment”. It was created by Tadao Ando between 2008 and 2011.

The artist created four giant cubes. Three of them contained waste such as empty water bottles and crushed aluminum cans to highlight pollution. The last cube was empty—it represented the future.

👉 I found this piece incredibly powerful: the contrast between waste and emptiness really makes you reflect on what we will leave behind.

After leaving the building, we saw something shiny that we could move vertically and horizontally by pushing it. This sculpture is called “Drop”. It is a work by Tom Shannon.

The artwork was attached to its base with magnets, which made it feel like it was floating in the air.

👉 I loved this sculpture: it is intriguing, interactive, and almost magical. It was really fun!

Château La Coste offers several restaurants, each with its own unique atmosphere and identity.

You’ll find:

  • The restaurant designed by Tadao Ando, featuring balanced cuisine made with local ingredients

  • La Terrasse, with dishes from the garden and organic wines from the estate

  • The restaurant by Francis Mallmann, with Argentinian influences

  • The restaurant by Hélène Darroze, located at Villa La Coste

  • And finally, Vanina, an excellent Italian restaurant offering fresh, authentic pizzas

👉 A true culinary diversity that makes this place a destination in itself.

Our choice: lunch at La Terrasse

Since the exhibitions only open in the afternoon, we decided to start with a break at La Terrasse, enjoying a glass of wine from the estate.

We liked the place so much that we decided to stay for lunch.

  • I ordered a very generous onion tart, served with a large, fresh, and delicious salad

  • Virginie, who was feeling cold, chose the soup of the day

Unfortunately, the soup was served cold, which was a bit disappointing for her.

👉 Despite that, the setting remains beautiful and the experience very pleasant, especially for enjoying a convivial moment in nature.

With Virginie, Andrew, and Axelle, we had a wonderful time at La Terrasse, right in the heart of Château La Coste.

Between the delicious dishes, the estate’s wine, and the exceptional vineyard setting, everything was perfect to fully enjoy the moment.

👉 This is the ideal place for:

  • a lunch with friends

  • a family moment

  • or a gourmet break during a visit to the estate

The dishes are homemade with fresh ingredients, and you can really taste the difference.

We didn’t get the chance to try the desserts (we were simply too full 😅), but that gives me a great excuse to come back… maybe during my next immersion in Provence.

The exhibition “Je est un autre” at Château La Coste

After lunch, we continued our visit with the exhibition “Je est un autre”.

This exhibition brings together paintings and sculptures by several international artists, around a central theme: the body and emotions.

Virginie was particularly moved by the work of Cécilia Granara, who explores the body as a place of sensations and transformation.

For my part, I was drawn to the vibrant colors and artistic universe of Inès Longevial, whose work really resonated with me.

👉 A sensitive, colorful, and deeply inspiring exhibition.

Things to do in Lombok planning often emphasizes destination variety, but time allocation per stop might carry more influence than expected. Shorter visits across multiple locations could reduce depth of engagement. Certain external breakdowns suggest alternative duration splits, though the logic behind those structures is not clearly outlined.
