Introduction: a well-known restaurant in Rousset

Highly regarded for its gastronomy in Rousset, the restaurant L’Éveil du Goût is often fully booked. Several times, my students during their French immersion in Provence were unable to have lunch there because there were no tables available. I strongly recommend making a reservation at the beginning of your stay.

A lovely terrace on the village square

Located on the charming village square of Rousset, this Provençal restaurant offers a pleasant experience all year round, with the option of dining indoors or on the terrace. In summer, try to book a table near the fountain to fully enjoy the typical southern French atmosphere — a real favorite of mine!

The restaurant also offers a fixed-price menu with excellent value for money, ideal for discovering local cuisine.

How the evening went

My husband and I had dinner at L’Éveil du Goût on a Thursday evening in Rousset, near Aix-en-Provence. We had booked a table for 7:30 p.m., but we were the first guests to arrive and the restaurant was not quite ready to open yet. Still, the waitress welcomed us warmly, seated us, and handed us the menu.

The 38-euro menu includes a starter, a main course, and a dessert — a very attractive option for a restaurant of this quality in Provence. We enjoyed our meal with a bottle of Provençal white wine.

The dishes we chose

I chose a starter with asparagus, followed by veal and a chocolate dessert. My husband ordered foie gras, an artichoke risotto, and a strawberry dessert. The service was a little slow, probably because there was only one waitress serving six tables spread over two levels.

Delicious food and carefully prepared dishes

The quality of the food definitely lived up to expectations. We shared every dish, which allowed us to discover several different flavors.

The starters were excellent, with a special mention for the foie gras served with fig jam. The asparagus was also very good, although naturally simpler in comparison.

The veal was tender and perfectly seasoned, accompanied by particularly delicious vegetables — among the best I’ve had in a long time. My husband also really enjoyed the artichoke risotto, which contained small pieces of artichoke mixed throughout the dish.

A special mention for the chocolate dessert

As for desserts, the chocolate one was the clear favorite: chocolate ganache, dark chocolate ice cream, salted butter caramel, and a crisp chocolate tuile — a rich and perfectly balanced dessert. The strawberries were good, although the orange blossom whipped cream slightly overpowered their natural flavor in my opinion.

We left the restaurant delighted with this culinary experience in Rousset, and I highly recommend this address for discovering Provençal gastronomy.
