A spring in Provence during my French immersion stay

Hello! My name is Oliver, and I had the chance to spend an incredible spring in Provence.

For one week, I stayed with Virginie, who helped me improve my French while introducing me to the wonders of the region. Thanks to this immersion, I learned new words every day and experienced unforgettable moments.

Here are three spring activities that I especially enjoyed around Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, and Rousset.

Cycling Along the Route des Crêtes in Provence

On the first day, at my request, Virginie organized a perfect activity to enjoy the beautiful weather and practice my French: a bike ride along the famous Route des Crêtes, between Cassis and La Ciotat.

This road is known for its spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and its impressive cliffs. Throughout the ride, Virginie and I spoke in French. I learned many new nature-related words, such as cliff and panorama. It was truly a way of learning. Really!

I had asked Virginie to organize this excursion before my arrival. Everything was planned, and we were able to rent electric bikes. In any case, Virginie had warned me that she would not do this ride without electric assistance 🙂

Exploring the Calanques of Cassis in Spring

The same day, we decided to set off on an adventure in the calanques of Cassis. And yes, it was a very sporty day! These rocky formations plunge into turquoise-blue water, and the views are truly… crazy (a word I learned that day).

During the hike, Virginie told me about the plants and animals found in the region. This allowed me to learn even more French vocabulary.

Walking in such a beautiful place gave me a lot of motivation to speak, ask questions, and express myself more. I loved exploring this little natural paradise while improving my French.

The Flower Market in Aix-en-Provence

To end my week of immersion in Provence, Virginie took me to the flower market in Aix-en-Provence. This market, full of colors and fragrances, is a true spectacle in spring. We wandered among the stalls filled with local and exotic flowers.

It was the perfect opportunity to talk about plant names in French. Virginie does not know flower names very well, so she asked the vendors questions. They explained the different seasonal varieties in Provence. It was really lovely!

My stay in Provence with Virginie was much more than just a week of vacation.

Each activity helped me improve my French while discovering magnificent places. Thanks to this complete immersion, I learned new words and expressions, and also discovered a region that I truly love.

Spring is an ideal season to visit Provence. I recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn French while living unique moments in a truly magical region.
